Cray Valley West Liberal Democrats Stephen Jenkins, Sam Webber and Mike Bignell have announced their plan for ending the Conservatives neglect of the Cray’s. The Liberal Democrat plan priorities for the next four years are:

Fair Taxes: We will keep the Council Tax down and ensure that unused money is returned to taxpayers rather than being banked by the borough;·

A fairer Bromley for all ages: We will end Tory policies that have left adult social care in Bromley among the worst in England, and ensure that there is play equipment for all age groups in our parks;·

A cleaner, safer Bromley: We will ensure that all streets are kept clean, pursue and punish flytipping, and bring Environmental Health back under one department;·

A thriving business community: We will work with community groups and voluntary agencies to breath life back into our high streets;·

Decent transport for all: We will repair and resurface roads and fight to improve public transport to the borough.

Our aspirations

The Cray’s means different things to different people. For many, it’s a place to lay one’s head after a busy working day followed by socialising in

London. But for those who are settled and bringing up a family or who have lived here all their lives, The Cray’s , Poverest, St Mary Cray,

St Paul’s Cray, Lullingstone needs to be more than a dormitory. It has to be somewhere where you are proud to say you come from The Cray’s rather than Bromley or Orpington. It has to be safe, clean and offer a level of activity that fits all stages of life. It has to be a community. We need to push for better facilities and not be short changed by Bromley Council.  LibDems will lobby for better, safer, local transport and stations, activities for teenagers that they’ll enjoy and are right for the community and a variety of shops for Cotmendene and local parades.

Lib Dems want to improve

St Mary Cray station

We have set out a five point plan to improve local rail services both at St Mary Cray station and at other stations in the borough. We hope you will support this campaign.

Ensure the station is staffed whilst trains are running •

Keep all available station entrances open during working hours •

Deep clean the station and remove notorious ‘grot spots’ •

Launch a website where people can report any problem with the station •

Invest in making stations fully accessible to those with disabilities •

Don’t grow old in Tory Bromley

Bromley Council has been named as one of eight local authorities in Britain that must urgently improve social care services. 95% of local authorities received an excellent or performing well grade, but Bromley was among the eight which were earmarked for improvement. With over 24,000 care providers in the country, one in six was told it must improve. Liberal Democrats have long sought to stand up for the elderly in Bromley and Orpington. These people are often neglected and we want to be clear – we will seek to put them first and improve care services for older people in Cray Valley West and elsewhere.

FORWARD BY STEPHEN JENKINS

I am delighted to have been chosen by the Liberal Democrats to run for Office in the Cray Valley West Ward in the Bromley Council Elections 2010.  I have lived in Bromley for eight years and in the Cray Valley West ward since 2005.  I live with my wife Caroline and our two cats in Oakdene Road St Mary’s Cray.

My hobbies include Rugby, Football, reading, listening to music and cooking. I’m currently studying Psychology and Counselling at Bromley Adult Education College.  I am a strong believer in bottom up politics and really think that I as a local resident can make a difference and represent the concerns of local people at full Council.  I have spoken up recently for the Tillingbourne Green shops, residents in Dawson’s Avenue and the local boxing club.  I am active in various community organisations.  I am a member of the Cray Valley West Police Ward Neighbourhood watch, a member of Hoblingwell Woods friends group and also a governor of Hillside

School in Orpington as well as being a Trustee for Coronation Hall in Poverest.  I am also on the Liberal Democrat list for approved candidates to stand for Parliament and play an active part in the activities of the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors.  I was briefly a community reporter with the News Shopper and always looked for ways to promote the activities and community spirit of the Cray’s in my articles. I have a Degree in Environmental Science, work for UCL and hold the following professional memberships Association of University Administrators, Chartered Institute of Management, member of the NGA.  I am really passionate about helping the community I live in and plan to use my life experiences and skills to serve the community to the best of my abilities.  I hope to serve this community and make it a brighter better place for people to live and work in.    You can also follow me on Facebook.
